Candied Walnuts

December 7, 2021

I make these Candied Walnuts to deliver to my friends for Christmas every year. They are absolutely delicious! And they are a perfect treat to have on hand for this time of the year. I love to put them out as an appetizer, with wine. They are also a perfect addition to a cheese board. And they make a great topping on a salad or baked brie.

Plus your house will smell amazing (and just like Christmas) when these bake -smelling of cinnamon and cloves. It is such an easy gift to make!! And I love how easy it is to multiply this recipe and make lots of homemade gifts for my friends.

Spread some joy this holiday season with a gift made with love!

Candied Walnuts

Ingredients:

2 (1 lb.) bags of shelled walnuts

1 egg

2 tbsp water

2 cup sugar

2 tbsp brown sugar

2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground cloves

2 tsp kosher salt

Parchment paper

  1. Whisk together the egg and water in a large bowl until it thickens up and turns frothy.

  2. Pour the walnuts into the bowl and stir until all of the walnuts are fully coated.

  3. In a separate bowl, stir together the sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves and salt until it is well combined.

  4. Pour the sugar mixture over the walnuts and toss well, making sure that all of the walnuts are coated well.

  5. Line two sheet pans with parchment paper.

  6. Pour the coated walnuts onto the sheet pans and spread out into a single layer.

  7. Bake at 250 degrees for about 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.

  8. Allow to cool fully on the cookie sheets. Continue to stir occasionally as the candied walnuts cool so that they do not stick together.

  9. Store in an airtight container or a Ziploc bag.

Note: If you just want to make 1 lb. of candied walnuts, just mix together one egg white with 1 tbsp of water for step one.

I look forward to making these Candied Walnuts all year! I alway make extras for myself and store them in a Ziploc bag in the freezer. Then I can snack on them or put then on my salad even after the holiday season is over.

I love this holiday tradition! Trust me - you and your friends will too!
