Easy Homemade Turkey Stock in the Crock Pot or Pressure Cooker

November 10, 2022

Thanksgiving is just two weeks away! You know how I don't like to let anything go to waste. When Thanksgiving dinner is over, do not throw away those turkey bones.

Take those turkey bones and vegetable scraps from your freezer and make some super easy turkey stock in your crock pot or pressure cooker. It is soup season, after all! And homemade turkey stock makes the most delicious soups!

Trust me, there is nothing better than homemade stock. You will never want to use store bought again when you see how easy this is to make. Give it a try this Thanksgiving!

Easy Homemade Turkey Stock in the Crock Pot or Pressure Cooker

(Makes approximately 5 quarts)

Ingredients:

Vegetable scraps (or one onion, quartered, 2 carrots and 2 celery stalks)

Turkey bones

1 tbsp Whole peppercorns

Kosher salt to taste

Water

  1. Place the bones, veggie scraps (or vegetables), peppercorns and salt into your slow cooker. Go light on the salt. You can always add more later but can’t take it away.

  2. Fill the slow cooker to the top with water and cover.

  3. Cook on the low setting overnight or all day. Anywhere from 8 to 15 hours. The longer the better.

  4. Taste to see if it needs more salt. Add some if it does.

  5. Let the stock cool a bit and remove the bones and vegetables.

  6. Strain into either quart sized containers or containers different sizes (so you have the correct amount of stock for different recipes). Plastic Chinese food containers are great for this!

  7. Use right away to make a delicious soup or you can freeze to use at a later date.

You can also make turkey stock much faster in a pressure cooker. Follow the recipe above, fill your pressure cooker with water to the "fill" line and cook under pressure for approximately 45 minutes to one hour.

Both ways work great but personally, I love making turkey stock in a slow cooker. It makes my house smell amazing!

Wow! Look at all of this delicious and rich homemade turkey stock! Can you believe how easy it is to make 5 quarts of turkey stock? And all from items that you would normally throw away. I can't wait to make some soup!
