Easy Homemade Turkey Stock in the Slow Cooker

November 26, 2021

I hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Do not throw away those turkey bones just yet! You know how I don't like to let anything go to waste. Take those vegetable scraps and turkey bones and make some super easy turkey stock! It is soup season, after all! And homemade turkey stock makes the most delicious soups!

Easy Homemade Turkey Stock in the Slow Cooker

(Makes approximately 5 quarts)

Ingredients:

Vegetable scraps (or one onion, quartered, 2 carrots and 2 celery stalks)

Turkey bones

1 tbsp Whole peppercorns

Kosher salt to taste

Water

  1. Place the bones, veggie scraps (or vegetables), peppercorns and salt into your slow cooker. Go light on the salt. You can always add more later but can’t take it away.

  2. Fill the slow cooker to the top with water and cover.

  3. Cook on the low setting overnight or all day. Anywhere from 8 to 15 hours. The longer the better.

  4. Taste to see if it needs more salt. Add some if it does.

  5. Let the stock cool a bit and remove the bones and vegetables.

  6. Strain into either quart sized containers or containers different sizes (so you have the correct amount of stock for different recipes). Plastic Chinese food containers are great for this!

  7. Use right away to make a delicious soup or you can freeze to use at a later date.

Easy Home Turkey Stock in the Pressure Cooker:

Please note that you can also make turkey stock much faster in a pressure cooker. Follow the recipe above, fill your pressure cooker with water to the "fill" line and cook under pressure for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Both ways work great but personally, I love making turkey stock in a slow cooker. It makes my house smell amazing!

Wow! Look at all of this delicious and rich homemade turkey stock! Can you believe how easy it is to make 5 quarts of turkey stock? And all from items that you would normally throw away. I can't wait to make some soup!
