Ground Beef Stroganoff

Updated: Jul 14, 2020

July 7, 2020

Growing up, Beef Stroganoff was one of my favorite comfort food dinners. My mom made the best Beef Stroganoff and it was made from a recipe that was passed down to her from her grandmother.

Now that the beef prices are so high, I decided to try making it with the ground beef that I just found on sale for $2.39 a pound. This recipe was a hit with my 3 growing teenage boys! They even said that they prefer this Ground Beef Stroganoff over Nana's recipe. Of course I love them both! This sauce is so unbelievably creamy and delicious! And it is an easy and inexpensive meal that doesn't take long to throw together at all!

Ground Beef Stroganoff

Wide egg noodles, cooked according to directions

1 lb. ground beef

8 oz. mushrooms, sliced

1/4 cup finely diced onion

1 garlic clove, minced

4 tbsp flour

1 cup beef stock

1/2 tsp paprika

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 cup sour cream

Fresh parsley, chopped

  1. In a skillet, over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef and onions.

  2. Drain the fat, leaving about 1 tbsp of fat in the pan.

  3. Add the mushrooms and garlic and lower the heat to medium.

  4. Cook until the mushrooms begin to soften and sprinkle the flour over top.

  5. Stir the beef and flour mixture for 2 to 3 minutes. You want to cook off the flour taste.

  6. Pour in the beef stock and stir.

  7. Add the paprika and season with salt and pepper to taste.

  8. Once the sauce is combined and starts to thicken, stir in the sour cream. Stir until the sauce is nice and creamy.

  9. Serve this delicious sauce over egg noodles and garnish with fresh parsley.

Look at the delicious and creamy beef mushroom sauce! Now I am really glad that I loaded up my freezer with ground beef from that sale! The boys are already asking me to make this Ground Beef Stroganoff again soon!
