Do you have some bananas that have turned brown? Do not let them go to waste! Those are the best kind of bananas to make some banana bread with! The overripe bananas add a natural sweetness to banana bread!
My boys have loved banana bread since they were little. I made so much of it that I had to come up with a healthier recipe. So, I came up with this recipe that reduces the amount of sugar used and cuts out the oil completely by using applesauce instead! Now that means that I can add some chocolate chips, right?!
The best part is that this recipe makes two loaves! Which is a good thing because my boys can smell this banana bread baking from a mile away and eat the first loaf hot out of the oven! You will love this healthier chocolate chip banana bread!
Healthier Low-fat Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
Makes 2 loaves
Ingredients:
4 to 5 overripe bananas
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup applesauce
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp cinnamon
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup chocolate chips
Peel the bananas and place into the mixer bowl. Turn the mixer on and blend until the bananas are blended but still in chunks.
Add the eggs and mix until blended.
Add the sugar, applesauce, vanilla and cinnamon and mix until combined.
Mix together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda in a separate bowl with a fork.
Pour the flour mixture into the banana mixture and use a spatula to stir until combined. Do not over mix.
Add your chocolate chips and give a quick stir.
Spray two bread pans with nonstick baking spray and place those pans onto a cookie sheet.
Divide and pour batter evenly into the two bread pans.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted into the banana bread.
Fresh out of the oven…
This is a family favorite! Make sure that you try it hot out of the oven with the gooey and warm melted chocolate chips! So delicious! And healthier too! The best kind of recipe!
