I love how well my herb garden is doing this summer. It makes me so happy! There is nothing better than the taste that fresh cut herbs give to all recipes. Here is how to keep your herbs fresh until you are ready to use them...
For more fragile herbs like basil and oregano, I like to take them and put them in a glass with an inch or two water. Keep an eye on them because you might need to add more water later as the herbs drink it up.
If you are using them soon, you can just leave them on the counter. But if it will be a day or two before you use them, place the herb filled glass in the refrigerator.
For herbs like thyme, parsley, rosemary, mint and cilantro, I store them differently. For these herbs, I wrap them in a wet paper towel. And then wrap the damp paper towel wrapped herbs in plastic wrap or put them in a plastic bag. Storing the fresh cut herbs this way will keep them fresh for a long time.
Aren't the flavors of fresh cut herbs just amazing? I just love summertime with all of the fresh vegetables and herbs!
