Tomorrow is the 148th Kentucky Derby! Will you be watching?
It wouldn't be the Kentucky Derby without a Mint Julep in my hand. I love this bourbon and mint based cocktail but I only drink it on the day of the Kentucky Derby. It is always such a treat! I wanted to share this as my "Friday Night Cocktail" so that you can make it for tomorrow's race. Will you be watching?
Mint Julep Cocktail
Ingredients:
8 mint leaves
1 tsp powdered sugar
1 tsp club soda
2 to 3 oz. Bourbon
Crushed ice
1 oz. Club soda
Fresh mint to garnish
Muddle together 8 mint leaves, the powdered sugar and 1 tsp of club soda with a spoon in a rocks glass. Or if you are lucky enough to have a silver Mint Julep cup, use that!
Fill the glass 3/4 full with crushed ice.
Add the bourbon and top off with 1 ounce of club soda.
Stir, garnish with more fresh mint and enjoy right away.
If you prefer a sweeter Mint Julep, muddle together 2 teaspoons of powdered sugar with 2 teaspoons of club soda.
