The Vermonter Turkey Sandwich

October 21, 2020

The fall season always brings up fond memories from trips up to Vermont to visit with my brother and his family. Fall is gorgeous here in Pennsylvania but it is absolutely breathtaking in Vermont. The colors are amazing! I see why so many "leaf peepers" visit that area this time of the year!

The fall foods in Vermont are also incredible! I will never forget the first time that I had this sandwich, during one of those visits. I instantly fell in love with the unique and delicious flavor combinations. Apple butter is the perfect condiment for this turkey sandwich. Its sweetness is the perfect balance for the sharp Vermont cheddar, crisp apple, smoked turkey and peppery watercress. So delicious together! You have to try it!

Vermonter Turkey Sandwich

Ingredients:

2 slices of multigrain bread

Apple butter

Smoked turkey, sliced thin

Apple, sliced thinly

Extra sharp cheddar cheese, sliced (I love Vermont's Cabot cheese)

Watercress

  1. Spread a nice layer of apple butter onto each slice of bread.

  2. Put a pile of smoked turkey on top of one the slices of bread.

  3. Add a layer of apple slices. Pick out your favorite apple. They all taste delicious on this!

  4. Then place your sharp cheddar cheese slices and top with some watercress and the other slice of bread.

  5. Cut the sandwich in half and enjoy!

The hardest part of this year has been not being able to see my family. I am one of four kids and we live all over the United States. We usually always get together in the summer but we weren't able to this year, because of the pandemic. I am sitting here, eating my Vermonter Sandwich, and am thinking of all of the fun and fond times that we have all shared. And I am wishing my sister in Colorado a very happy birthday! Cheers! I hope and pray that we can all be together again soon!
