Walking Taco Bowls with Ground Turkey

September 21, 2021

Are you trying to think of a twist for "Taco Tuesday"? Then this is the recipe for you!

My family absolutely loves this dinner! We always see this served at sporting events. They serve it in a chip bag so that you can walk and eat, on the go. That's how it got its name..."walking tacos". And it is also great to serve it this way for parties too.

But at home, I like to serve this delicious dinner in bowl so that I can get a little bit of everything, with each bite. Who wouldn't love a dinner served on a bed of nacho chips, right?! I like to make this a little healthier by using ground turkey, instead of ground beef. Add your favorite taco toppings and you have a dinner that can't be beat!

Walking Taco Bowls with Ground Turkey

Ingredients:

1 lb ground turkey

1 tbsp olive oil

1/2 onion, diced

1/3 cup water

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp oregano

1 tsp chili powder

1 1/2 tsp cumin

1 1/2 tsp paprika

A few dashes of red pepper flakes (optional)

Your favorite nacho, tortilla or corn chips

Pick your favorite taco toppings:

Shredded cheese

Shredded lettuce

Diced tomatoes

Sour cream

Guacamole

Cilantro

Diced green onions

Jalapeños

  1. Drizzle the olive oil into a skillet, over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the ground turkey and onions. Cook and break up the meat until it is fully browned.

  3. Drain off any extra fat from the skillet.

  4. Lower the heat to medium, add all of the spices and stir well.

  5. Pour the water over top, stir and cook until the water fully cooks in.

  6. Now you are ready to make your walking tacos in a chip bag or in a bowl of chips. Place the taco meat on top of the chips and add all of your favorite taco toppings!

For my growing family of 5, I usually double this recipe because they are always so hungry after sports and a busy day. And it is so easy to keep the cooked taco meat warm, in a crock pot. So everyone can eat it their convenience. So easy and delicious!

Brown the ground turkey and onions in olive oil...

Add all of the spices and stir well...

Pour in the water and stir...

Cook until the water cooks into the meat and everything is combined well...

If you want to serve this later, transfer the taco meat into a crock pot to keep it warm...

Then serve the taco meat over chips and top with all of your favorite toppings...

Now who wouldn't love this delicious dinner?! My boys always get so excited when they see that this is what we are having for dinner! And I love how easy it is to make! It's perfect for your next "Taco Tuesday"!
